The large purple blue flowers of this light prune variety have kept it in the best sellers list ever since its introduction in 1876. Clematis 'The President' was raised by Charles Noble and is a hybrid between C. x jackmanii and C. patens it has an A.G.M. It can be grown in any aspect and is vigorous to about 10' You get the biggest flowers if it is lightly pruned but it also flowers well after a hard prune.
