Jasminum polyanthum

A vigorous twining evergreen with clouds of highly scented white flowers, which open from pink buds. The flowering period is governed by where it is grown. Outdoors in milder parts of the country Jasminum polyanthum flowers May June July and August Indoors if kept cool it flowers February March and into April, but if the conservatory/greenhouse gets too hot, the flowering will be much shorter. It can be kept in check by hard pruning after flowering. When bought as a houseplant they are often treated with growth retardants and forced to alter flowering periods.
Introduced from China around 1891 it received an A.M. in 1941. (min -3c)
