Podranea ricasolianaThe large pink/purple flowers are carried in big trusses in Autumn on through winter. This plant will take cold but like Campsis it needs sun and heat to flower (min -10c). In the cooler West of the UK it may need starting under glass unless a really hot wall is available. I have found it will grow outside but does not flower, and if I want the spectacular late season display that it is capable of giving I must house it in a cold greenhouse, it can be hard pruned after flowering to control the size. It came originally from Southern Africa and is widely grown on the Balearic and Atlantic islands.
