Schisandra rubrifloraThis lovely hardy climber is related to the Magnolias, the clusters of deep red flowers look like small magnolia flowers in late spring. Introduced from Western China in 1908 and given an A.M. in 1925 The flowers are either male and female these are normally on separate plants occasionally some of each sex are carried on the same plant but often not in the right proportions and for good fruit set you need at least two plants one male and the others female. There may be clones around with an even balance but my plants are all female. |
