Schisandra rubriflora

This lovely evergreen climber is related to the Magnolias, the clusters of deep red flowers look like small magnolia flowers in late spring. Introduced from Western China in 1908 and given an A.M. in 1925 The flowers are male and female carried on the same plant but often not in equal proportions and for good fruit set you sometimes need two plants one predominantly male and the other predominantly female. There may be clones around with an even balance, my plant is predominantly female.
