Now 25 years old the fruit cage was starting to collapse and we decided as part of its renovations we would take the opportunity of building some walls, inside the fruit cage they would be warm and sunny, outside cool and shady and we hope an ideal location for some of the National collection of Lapageria to be planted out. We decided to tackle the West facing wall first as it was this side of the cage that was in the worst condition
The newly finished wall, the horizontal wires are run through loops of galvanized wire laid between the course as the wall was built.

January 08 the wall had a range of plants tried on it that we had previously struggled to get through the winter. Below are some pictures of these taken in December 08 about 11 months on

Clianthus puniceus

Isoplexis canariensis

Pandorea pandorana 'Golden Showers'

Salvia gauranitica 'Black & Blue'

Tibouchina urvilleana
