This has turned out to be one of those jobs put off for 20 years or more that will make a big difference to us living and gardening here but be almost undetectable to anyone visiting (well after everything grows back!)
Seen before the step move the Wisteria which was planted to shade the conservatory has started to be a pest, getting under the gutter and such like, so along with moving the steps the opportunity was taken to raise the Wisteria up and move it off the Conservatory onto its own wood frame
The first job was to move forward by 4 feet a set of stone steps, mainly to stop folk falling down them when exiting the kitchen clutching their tea and cake! The existing wood posts were replaced by higher ones, and extra posts placed along the conservatory front to take the Wisteria
An old retaining wall was about to collapse and had to be replaced, notice how small and thin the original was, I was the guilty party that built it, the moral being if its a retaining wall take advice!
Seemed a shame to stop at soil level having gone to such a lot of trouble getting the old wall down and redoing the foundations
