Eucomis
pole avensii
Summer flowering
bulbs which are late into growth (late May) Soon produce handsome
clumps of leaves and flower spike topped with a rosette of leaves
(about 1.2M, 4' tall). The flower spike is creamy white and
green, long lasting from late June to November. Bulbs can be
grown outside in the ground if below the frost line and drainage
is reasonable, heavy feeding is beneficial. This Eucomis is the
most difficult to get to flower regularly, Large bulbs and an
early start to the season are the way to go, so may be best pot
grown and started under glass.
