Lonicera similis delavayiThis evergreen climber looks similar to Lonicera japonica but is larger in all its parts and the leaves are more leathery. The long fragrant white to pale yellow flowers are carried in pairs in the leaf axils mostly bunched up near the shoot tips from late summer right through Autumn. Plant out of cold winds. Lonicera similis delavayi is a much better evergreen than lonicera japonica with better quality less problem prone leaves and should be hardy in the South of the UK. This is a stunning honeysuckle. Introduced from Western China in 1901 |
