Rosa bracteata
This species is
sometimes known as the "Macartney Rose" (nothing to do
with Paul!) this is a wonderful rose that will need wall
protection to give of its best. The pure white flowers have a
prominent boss of orange/yellow stamens and are strongly scented
of lemons, borne singularly from late summer on. The foliage is
completely disease resistant and persists through the winter. The
original plant was collected in Eastern China by Sir George
Staunton, and brought back to the UK by Lord Macartney in 1793 (it
is also one of the parents of the classic climber 'Mermaid')
